The  12th of May 2024 was memorable for the ICOC family as the church launched the DAKUSOM (Dan Kuria School of Missions) at the Umoja sanctuary.  DAKUSOM is a school that was founded in honor of Dan Kuria, who died while on an evangelistic mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In 2022, the church teachers led by Ev. William Auki, decided to bring to life an earlier proposal to start the Dan Kuria School of Missions.

As Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

Despite several unsuccessful funding applications to the Beam Mission Foundation (BFM), they moved forward with their plans.

In January 2023, they actualized the idea by starting the school. This was followed by a clarion call to any eligible and interested person below 25 years within the East African community of Churches to apply and join.

Unsurprisingly, many youths volunteered to join the school. About 40 students signed up and started attending classes early Saturday mornings.

By the day of the DAKUSOM launch, 7 students who had shown consistent interest through regular class attendance and passed a rigorous series of interviews were onboarded as the first cohort of BMF-sponsored students.

They have successfully completed the following units:

  • Biblical Interpretation
  • New Testament Survey
  • Old Testament Survey

Program Overview

In addition to ongoing teaching, the seven trainees will be allocated to and trained by specific church ministers in ministry matters.

This program has been enabled thanks to input from teachers, including:

  • Julius Nguku
  • Jarret Odwallo
  • Simon Muya (Technical Support + Teaching)
  • William Auki
  • Richard Ahenda

At the height of this event, church ministers who will be offering practical ministry training were introduced, followed by the unveiling of the seven BMF-sponsored students:

These were;

  1. Natty Wanjiru – Campus Ministry, Western Bloc
  2. Marion Sally – Eastern Bloc, Joska Church
  3. Dan Akuloba – Southern Bloc, Campus
  4. Clinton Omondi – Campus, Western Bloc
  5. Watson Akampa – Kampala, Uganda
  6. Cliff Iyaya – Eldoret Church
  7. Zedekiah Akuno – Kisii Church

East Africa launched DAKUSOM as the 15th School of Missions within the ICOC global community. The ceremony concluded with a special prayer led by church elders Anthony Mwanza and Jeremiah Oginga to commemorate this significant event.
