On the 17th of August, Kitengela ICOC Church was officially launched in a day filled with joy, worship, and gratitude. Located just 30 kilometers from Nairobi, Kitengela has grown rapidly over the years, attracting new families, students, and businesses. With such fast-paced growth, the need to preach Christ in this expanding part of Kenya could not be clearer, and the launch of the church came at just the right time.

The service began on a high note, with uplifting music and a warm welcome from Caxton and Linet. The atmosphere was vibrant—people were reconnecting, exchanging smiles, and expressing their excitement about the new chapter. Albert Nashon, serving as MC, guided the program smoothly and kept the energy alive throughout the event.

A heartfelt prayer by Sammy Mbuva set the spiritual tone of the day, acknowledging God’s faithfulness and the journey that had brought the church to this point. This was followed by communion, led by Charles Onyango, giving the congregation a meaningful moment of reflection on Christ’s sacrifice and the unity of believers.

The message of the day came from George Irungu, who spoke about legacy and the importance of living with courage and commitment. He challenged the church to think about what each person will leave behind for future generations and called on members to take bold steps—inviting others, sharing their faith, and staying active in the mission. His words were both inspiring and convicting, a timely reminder of the responsibility the church carries.

One of the highlights was the cake-cutting ceremony, a symbolic act that marked the sweetness of fellowship and the blessings of God in this new beginning. It was a moment of pure celebration, filled with laughter, gratitude, and the joy of knowing God is at work in Kitengela. Leaders and contributors were also acknowledged for their dedication, which made the launch possible, showing the strength of teamwork and unity.

As the event drew to a close, Samson officially welcomed Tom and Diddy Akello to lead the Kitengela Church. This was a particularly moving moment, as Tom’s journey of service in the ICOC movement was shared. He planted the church in Arusha in 1996, later led the Kampala church, and in 2000 went on to plant the Bujumbura ICOC. It was in Burundi that he married Diddy, and together they have served faithfully for many years. Their move to Kitengela marks the start of an exciting new chapter for both them and the congregation.

The Kitengela Church, previously part of the Southern Bloc ICOC Kenya churches, now begins its journey as an independent congregation with a clear mission: to be a light in a rapidly growing community and a beacon of hope for many. The launch ended with prayer, fellowship, and a strong sense of anticipation for what God will do through this church in the years to come.
