In a bid to raise money to support the East Africa Campus Ministry Retreat 2018 to be held in Arusha Tanzania, the Campus Ministry prepared a special surprise for the moms and mother figures in the Church on Sunday 20th May at the Central Catering Unit (CCU) at Nairobi University.

The event was appropriately dubbed “Wonder Woman”, and served to appreciate and encourage the moms in the afternoon after the Sunday Service.

The young men from campus received the moms at the hall door and escorted them down the red carpet to their seats and then served them with snacks. A Song for Mama by Boyz II Men played in the background and evoked a few tears of joy and happiness from the moms as the love around them was so obvious.

The event’s MCs, Edward Kivuva and Elsa Njoki, did a splendid job hosting the event after a warm welcome by Emma Adundo and David Kamau.

Oscar Apaka shared, “My mum is kilometers away from me but the love I get from my moms’ here is enough to take me through. I get to eat, make noise, help, and even earn my rent and food from the moms God has given me. A simple thank you is all I can say.”

“I live with my mum but even at Church I feel like I’m with my many other moms because of the similar qualities they bear – prayer warriors, humble, caring, loving, and supportive. Thank you for who you are in our lives,” Eunice Kunga shared with a joyful heart.

Faith Achiala presented the song Stand Up For Love by Destiny Child and Dennis Mwale did a poem, Super Woman.

Moms who came with their kids had a fantastic time as the kids were treated at the Toto’s Corner to snacks and games and were also helped to make beaded bracelets for their moms by the talented Brian Jananga.
The Campus also played a few games against the moms, in which the moms won.

At the end, there was a cake cutting and dancing. One of the moms was lit! Ruth Regau showed us that she still has the moves and the campus and moms all joined in following her lead.

“We are truly overwhelmed by your thoughts for us. This was so well thought out and so well planned. We are so proud of you and so thankful. We will continue to support you in this endeavor, and we love you all so much,” said Wangu Gathitu on behalf of the mothers.

It was indeed a memorable day for those who served and those being served.
