Open/Close Menu Making Disciples of All Nations

Story by Carren Adhiambo

Given the opportunity to be wrapped in a blanket on a chilly day, I’d undoubtedly say yes. However, the Amigos were not about to cave into the cold without a fight. Valentine Sunday was here and we decided to celebrate it on 16th February 2020 by visiting the exquisite Cinema IMAX at Garden City.  Amigos are a group of disciples who are either dating or courting for marriage and are drawn within our International Churches of Christ membership.

The chilly morning weather in Nairobi could not stop us from streaming into the venue from different directions to beat the stipulated time deadline.

Once settled down, we got into the reason for our meeting by selecting a movie, ‘Overcomer’ then proceeding to the auditorium to watch the movie which we enjoyed every bit of. We then had a session to air our feelings concerning the movie. It was obvious from the expressions that the movie had an impact on us.

Joy Mwende from Kitengela Ministry exclaimed, “I love the question about, ‘Who defines me? Is it God or circumstances?’ Where’s my identity?” 1 Peter 2:9-10 reminds us that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that we may declare the praises of him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once we were not a people, but now we are the people of God….

David Kamau’s (DK) sentiments were, ‘the movie depicted our race to heaven and how sometimes we’ll have cheerleaders encouraging us to complete the race without losing heart despite the challenges.

Carren Adhiambo pointed out that the movie touched all aspects of life. As we run it keeps getting tough but we need not give up knowing well God is with us just like Hebrews 12:1 encourages us to run with perseverance.

We then shared a meal as we enjoyed the fellowship and later, under the leadership of Evangelist Samson and his wife Judith Monda, we regrouped into three groups for a discussion, “Characteristics of a Good Relationship”. The uttermost characteristics were good communication, trust, and humility among other key ones like forgiveness, love, and relationship with God.

We had a couple’s testimonials of their journey regarding Communication. We learned quite a lot from their powerful sharing being in each other’s’ lives and how communication has redefined their marriage.

Unfortunately, the day had to come to an end and the Monda’s promised to send each couple a class on communication which they had prepared beforehand. With prayer, we concluded the eventful wonderful day.

This was an encouraging couple’s turn up which had an attendance of 19 members. To God be the glory.

For sure the day was awesome. In life we need the the people Who will always tell us the truth. Unmasking the unspoken. Like the movie, the young girl was able to overcome what made her captive, this was as a result of getting the truth, from the family friends. The head teacher did the same. We are not left behind nothing is difficult we all can overcome.
