Mark 2:17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
This scripture helps us to reflect on our lives and the one (Jesus) who called us into the light. Jesus is not interested with the ‘healthy’ but sinners.
This year’s International Churches of Christ East Africa theme, ‘love the Lord with all you heart, mind, strength and soul’ has been a great opportunity to re-examine our lives and ask ourselves whether we love God with everything.
In the month of April, the Campus Ministry decided to go through the book‘The Killer Within’ written by Mike Taliaferro. We realized that while we may want to love God with all of our being, many times there is a killer within us that frustrates such a noble effort.
Mike has used several diseases to bring out the horror and the damages the diseases cause due to our ignorance or just careless lifestyles in the 128 page book. The diseases include Ebola, Meningitis, Cancer and Tuberculosis. By reading the book severally, studying out the diseases and getting to see the pictures Mike hopes that it will change our view of the diseases and open our eyes on the deadly disease called sin. We are all in danger and exposed to this killer of all time. The killer within the human race has messed up many young people into drugs and other vices, destroyed marriages and left many children in broken families.
This book helps us to look at sin differently; have a healthy respect for sin, be urgent about sin in our lives and be vulnerable to share what is going on in our lives. As a result many disciples in Campus Ministry have been brave and vulnerable to share their lives and got the necessary help. This amazing book is changing lives within the campus ministry of the Nairobi Christian Church.
It has changed the way I look at my brothers during discipling. I need to have the heart of Christ. Jesus is the doctor. He accepted me and healed me. Jesus will also help those I encourage who have challenges with sin in their lives to overcome the killer within. I have learnt to accept the weak.
This inspiring book by Mike Taliaferro will convict your hearts. A copy retails at Ksh. 1,000 at the Think Deeper Bookstore. This is a book that will remain relevant for a long period of time.
