Open/Close Menu Making Disciples of All Nations

The Western Bloc of the Nairobi Christian Church consists of areas around the City Center and stretching along Nakuru Highway. This includes Ngara, Parklands, Kileleshwa, Lavington, Kilimani, Gachie, Kawangware and Kangemi (KAKA).

While he was on earth, Jesus loved to teach outdoors. It was common to find him on mountain tops or beside lakes preaching the word of God.

Last Sunday, 14th October 2018, over 100 men from the Western block made up of Chiromo, Kiambaa and Kaka Ministries in following the example of Jesus had their service, fellowship, and hike on top of Ngong Hills. Boys of above 10 years came too.

It was an awesome scene as the team enthusiastically made their way to Ngong hills on public transport or private cars and congregated at the bottom of the hill at 8 am ready for the challenge ahead. Not even the chilly morning weather could curtail their enthusiasm.

After two songs Jarret Odwallo shared from the book of Genesis when he shared the story of Abraham and Isaac. He encouraged the disciples to be open about their lives in order to be free and pure to serve God.

Jarret Odwallo asked the men to partner two by two, get to confess and seek help where appropriate, and then pray together as we proceeded to hike. It was a solid time to get things off our chests and really connect with God.

Preaching by John Maleya

This prepared us well for the communion message in which Jarret guided us from Genesis 22:1-17 upon reaching the third hill. He spoke about the story of Abraham being asked by God to go sacrifice his only son Isaac on a mountain and related it to the hills we were climbing that day. He encouraged the disciples to always seek to be transparent with their lives.

After the communion, the disciples started the real climbing. The hike took us to the second last hill where Evangelist John Maleya preached a powerful message calling out the man in us (Joshua 1:9).

Indeed it was just the right time to churn out the men God wants us to be. There was a need to awake in our mission of reaching out to the lost and not allow fear and doubt to stop us from Christ’s mission in our lives.

The hills provided a perfect environment for this. The hills echoed loudly as the men beckoned, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided!”

Inspired by the message, the brothers decided to finish all the hills and on top of the highest point in Ngong hills, we sang, hugged and took pictures, wrapping up a fantastic Sunday service, hike, and fellowship.

To God be the glory.

What an awesome day it was. The hike taught us a lot about one another relationships, being each others keepers, perseverance and endurance, and walking like Jesus did.
Thanks for taking time to share the story. God bless.

This is awesome and should be incorporated for a churchwide activity someday. Well planned and executed. To God’s glory.
