As 2026 rolled in, just like in every year before, the women leaders in East Africa began planning for the first quarter of the year of which IWD is one of the most significant events in the women’s calendar. Being that March 8th fell on a Sunday, it was difficult to undertake the usual community service activities as has been the case in the previous years. After much discussion it was decided as follows:
- The sisters would embark on a “Prayer-thon” involving praying and fasting over different situations in the church and in the world around us from 4 am to 11 pm daily. The prayer-thon was preceded by each church, generating a list of all the issues that they wanted to put before God in prayer and fasting.
- On Sunday 8th March the sisters were going to serve in their different congregations, from offering prayers, welcoming people to church, serving Holy Communion, reading the announcements, sharing in the Holy Communion message, and some even shared the sermon with their husbands! The 2026 theme of IWD is Unfailing Love, hence, the sisters’ service was a way of expressing their gratitude to God for his undying love to his people.

To say that the day was phenomenal and flowery would be an understatement! Some brothers argued that sisters should be given a platform to serve the church more, say, every quarter.
We have compiled a pictorial of the events captured from different churches and Blocs in the East African Region.
